About The Adult Lab
The Adult Lab is a resource hub run by me, Angela Ostafichuk, to help you grow older, better. But what does growing older, better mean?
Who is Angela Ostafichuk?
I’m your typical average human who had to learn about aging because of my parents and the community I volunteered in. At first, I was hesitant to work with seniors, but I truly began to enjoy my time spent with an older population. The people were incredible, and the things they had to offer to the world were so important. But yet…most millennials (people in my age group) seemed to think very little about aging, growing old, and helping build a better future for the senior community, and the more I looked, the more blocks I saw that we needed to put into place to help build our seniors up, not only now, but in the future as well. Also, with the world on the verge of a massive senior boom (called the silver tsunami), there was a lot to pay attention to.
A Big Worry And Hope To Change Things
The real power I saw was how we could change things for seniors when we all worked together. The idea of us vs. them needed to stop and we all needed to band together. The more support seniors had from the community, the stronger they would be and in return, the stronger the senior population would be in the future.
I started looking outside of my city first at places that had some of the most significant aging communities in the world such as Japan and moved inward. And the more I looked, the more interesting things became but sadly, not everyone else seemed to feel that way. Whenever I brought up aging and seniors, the topic seemed to get brushed aside despite it being so important which is what led me here, to create this blog in hopes that other people too would get on the “senior bandwagon”.
What The Future Holds (For You And Me)
There is no crystal ball that will be able to predict the future, unfortunately. However, we can all make a difference in regards to seniors. The more we talk about it, the more we invest now, the better things will be in the future. It’s about universal design and creating a better product, understanding the needs of the elderly better and creating an environment that is for everyone. All of this is possible, but not without everyone working together. That includes countries, governments and everyday citizens like you and I.
It’s really as simple as that. Changing the world and changing the future means working together and being aware. The more we focus on an aging population, the better our world becomes.
